I believe Boehner is going to cry.
Watching the who is sitting with who sweepstakes I am reminded of the old Tom Lehrer song "National Brotherhood Week:"
"Step up and shake the hand of someone you can't stand, you can tolerate him if you try."
Obama seems to be making the case for American exceptionalism. I thought he was exceptional in that he didn't believe in American exceptionalism. Or so the right wingers tell me.
"We can't stand Pat." Wasn't that Nixon's old slogan?
He's quoting RFK but the rhetoric is, dare I say, a bit Reaganesque.
"Green energy is the place to be, electric cars are the ride for me."
Nice shot at the oil companies. "They're doing just fine on their own."
Peter King appears to have a list of Muslims in his pocket.
"If you want to make a difference in the life of our country become a hedge fund manager teacher."
Looks like Kerry drew the short straw.
South Koreans are able to see their porn faster.
The transcontinental railroad and the interstate highway system -- infrastructure from the days of sane Republicans.
(Now he's pandering to Lisa with that "pat down" reference.)
But child labor laws are unconstitutional.
Nice pivot off of reducing regulatory burden to why regulations are necessary. (Forgive me for using pivot.)
Good job on defending health care reform. Short, pithy, and understandable.
Five year freeze on discretionary domestic spending. A pander, but probably a tactically decent one.
Medical malpractice reform -- bah! It hasn't really worked anywhere yet to reduce costs.
A shout out to the American Muslims. Peter King has now put his name on the list.
Don't oversell the Afghan War -- not a lot of hedge on starting to remove troops from Afghanistan this summer. Words to live by.
And shout outs to South Sudan and Tunisia. A little more international affairs than I expected.
And a little homage to DADT repeal. Nice. In your face Marine Corps commandant.
Oh, he got Boehner! Has anyone ever loved being Veep more than Joe Biden?
I seriously think he emulated a lot of Reagan's rhetorical style. It's a wise stylistic theft. (Of course Reagan stole liberally, as it were, from FDR.)
And soon the main event -- Michelle Bachmann.
But first, a little Paul Ryan. The "failed stimulus" - what a crock. And millions of people will lose their coverage under Health Care Reform. Lying bastard.
Social safety net as a hammock. Fuck yeah!
I guess Wall Street and free enterprise are not even on speaking terms.
There is nothing like a dame America.
Ed Rendell disappointed that he didn't seize the day on gun control. Who woulda thunk?
